We may be able to walk to work or not buy clothing for twelve months to cut costs, but everyone has to buy groceries. 

Costs for transport are huge. When seeking a place to live, make sure it is close to public transport. If you can walk to work, even better! 

Clothing is a major expense. Always look for clothing items on sale. It's best to know how much the item cost originally since clothing tends to be continually "on sale". Sometimes though, it is not discounted from a true original price.
